According to CBC, gas prices are “off the charts” see story here.
Two things are of interest here. The first is that relative to gold, gas isn’t really getting more expensive, rather our purchasing power due to inflation is getting weaker. The story misses the point without this context since everything is getting more expensive due to inflation.
The much more interesting part of the CBC story is the comment section for this story:
This comment represents the majority view that things cost too much money because all the companies that produce it are greedy and they “charge whatever they want.” If this were true one has to wonder why one of the competing companies doesn’t just be a little less greedy, price its competitors right out of business and turn even more profit for themselves? Or does it ever occur to people that that is what is already occurring and the current price of gas is the result competition?
As the number of people who agree and disagree with this comment shows, stupid people outnumber thinking people by nearly 10 to one.
Seems about right.
